Someone call 911, the sky is on FIRE!

Shot last week....

I was scrambling to get these shots off before I lost the nice light....

My wetsuit was still on, dangerous salt water dripping off me, perilously close to my precious camera! Luckily, it escaped unscathed...

I tried bumping up the colour saturation in the vertical shot, what say you, readers?

Burning, frickin'....rubber.

I attended the pre-release screening of Burning Rubber last night in Terence Bay. What a hoot!

I was very nervous about my 'part' in the doc., but it all turned out well in the end.

My one comment in the doc. (about how in high school I thought brake burns were just made by "...dumb rednecks...") didn't seem to go over very well with the crowd. Understandable. Hopefully they heard the last part of my quote over the murmurs, which had me explain how I've gained a new appreciation for brake burns....Stop ya' hatin', ya'll don't know me! (o_0)

The doc. was much funnier than I anticipated, in a good way! I was grinning ear to ear for most of it.

Keep your eyes peeled for Burning Rubber airing on Bravo! in December and hopefully at the Atlantic Film Festival later this summer.

This shot I scraped online sums up how I feel about Ariella's documentary, I love's it!

Late night Lahave ferry

Shot about a month ago, late night ferry crossing on the Lahave River.

For some reason, the clock in the 'cockpit' (what is that captain's 'perch' called, anyway?) caught my eye. I wonder why there are red wedges on the quarter hour, but not on the hour/half hour?

Oh well, there have to be some mysteries in life, right?

Brake burns are universally rural ^_^

Felt like I've been neglecting les burnouts recently, so, that being said...

Here's my compilation of brake burns/burnouts/les burnouts from my recent trip to les Îles de la Madeleine.

As you can see, burnout culture knows no cultural/language boundaries...give me a rural road seldom travelled by the po po, and I'll show you brake burns!

Ma Grande Aventure aux Îles de la Madeleine - jour 2

The first of many windsurfers I would see on my trip

Part of my dune adventure near Old Harry, can you see the trail? It wasn't always clear which way to go, fun!

It was a cloudy day on the island, hard to capture the vistas you see in the tourist brochures..

En faites les burnouts ici, le!

Stunning, one of the few beaches that almost had surfing potential....almost. The cliffs in the distance reminds me of Cape Breton.

Lots of red cliffs to be photographed, this place is an amazing spot for kayaking, I wann go through that hole in the rock!

Ma grands aventure aux Îles de la Madeleine: NS => PEI

This was to be a recurring theme all weekend..waiting in line for a ferry. I managed to hit all my ferries on time, SO much better than driving!

Started snapping pics of people coming off the PEI => NS ferry, buddy gave me the finger, it was a good omen ^_^

Busted! seatbelt not on, one hand on camera, how many driving laws am I violating here?

New VW van on its first trip? LOTS of veedub vans on Les Îles , le!

The captain caught me snapping this one

Nothing says ferry like ferry jello...

Our fishing boat 'escort'....the adventure was only just beginning..

La derniere soire chez Iles...

I came, I saw, I got my ass handed to me by an 11.5 meter kite, I drank your fine beers and savoured your stinky cheeses...Les Iles de la Madleine, I`ll be back..

Saturday 18 July 2009

On faites beacoup de burnouts en Les Iles, le!

First day of my vacation en Les Ilês de la Madeleine. Amazing.

Fine cheeses on offer, the best chocolate croissant I have ever eaten...had a coastal dune adventure (pics to follow) this morning, interesting trail, you had to use your head to figure out where it went next...

Sipping a fine biere blonde ce soir, made with barley grown on Les Ilês, delish!

Tomorrow, kite surfing and kite buggying lessons await!

Tuesday 14 July 2009

When the sun shines....

...they make hay....

...and we get traffic 'jams', south shore style. Well, not much of a 'jam, just stuck behind a tractor with hay baler in tow for a minute or two:

Count your blessings that there are still people who know how to make hay! Come the end times, the ability to grow fuel for animals will no doubt become a valuable skill...mind you, not sure what we'll do with all these derelict diesel machines lying around...I'm sure we'll figure something out, right?

The light was nice 'n' warm last night when I got home, so I snapped these two shots, figgered they fit in with the haying theme:

Not hay per se

Nothing like a good feed of clams

Digging for clams used to be an annual ritual for my family.

Every summer, my grandparents would secure their 'usual spot' at Little Risser's campground. Under the tutelage of my grandfather, we would extract the clams from the Petite Riviere clam flat, using a plunger of all things!

But, it's been ages since those days, that clam flat has been closed for a long time. It's a constant reminder of my past when I see people digging for clams and quahogs around the South Shore.

Here is a nice bucket full of soft shell clams spotted this past week at a local beach. Apparently it's a long hike to get to the clams, but well worth it once the clams are boiling in the pot!

Tools of the trade and the spoils

Bye bye, clouds!

What is that hot, glowing orb in they sky this morning?!?

Today's picture sums up the last couple weeks (at least)...lots and lots of clouds, with the occaisional glimpse of blue sky buried in there...somewhere...

All this overcast weather has really made me appreciate the sun. Enjoy it today while it lasts, everyone!
