Stupendous Skye

Calmac Ferry Hebrides
Isle of Skye to Isle of Harris, Scotland
June 23, 2012

Another gorgeous shot looking back at the Skye (Uig) as we started the ~45 minute trip to the Hebrides.  As you can see, the weather was on our side, again.  Truly blessed, we were!

So long, Skye

Calmac Ferry Hebrides
Isle of Skye, Scotland
June 23, 2012

So much for all that rainy weather people talk about when describing Scotland.  Here's further evidence of sun for all those getting down with the Forevuary blues.

This image was shot from the deck of the Calmac Ferry Hebrides, shortly after departing Uig.   This ferry travels to Tarbert on the Isle of Harris (or, Harris as the locals call it).  You can almost see the hostel atop the hill in the distance, where we laid our heads the previous evening.

Lahave ferry crossing video

Stumbled upon this short video of a crossing of the Lahave River via our beloved cable ferry.

psst, only tourists pay $5.25 to cross, those 'in the know' buy a book of 10 tickets for ~$12

Skipping across the ferry

Sunday afternoon, returning to the east side of the Lahave.

Lovely light as the ferry emerged from the shadows....and this father and daughter scene.

'Nuff said.

Sunny Lahave Crossing

Just another gorgeous day on the Lahave Ferry, in search of waves. Sadly, none were found that day....

Night crossing, pt. 2

I'm glad my 'pilot' alerted me to the photo op on the other side of the ferry that night, thanks Kat!

Block 'n' tackle

This is one 'arm' holding up a life raft on the Lahave ferry.

As you can see from the sky it was a glorious day on Saturday!

One more ticket...

Still a bargain at $1.25 per crossing!

...if you are still paying $5 to take the ferry instead of buying a book of 20 tickets for $25, well, do the math...

As the Ian's Automotive radio ad says...

"brrr...it's winter...it's cold outside" (best if spoken aloud in a Lun. County accent)

Actually, it's nice out today, I could feel the sun's warmth on my legs during my lunchtime XC ski..

Crossing the icy Lahave

The tide was extra high on Sunday, so sayeth the ferry operator....lots of ice in the river, caught some neat reflections in the water, it was so still that morning....

Late night Lahave ferry

Shot about a month ago, late night ferry crossing on the Lahave River.

For some reason, the clock in the 'cockpit' (what is that captain's 'perch' called, anyway?) caught my eye. I wonder why there are red wedges on the quarter hour, but not on the hour/half hour?

Oh well, there have to be some mysteries in life, right?

Canadiana 101

Nice old Nordiques sticker on the classic metal lunch box, spotted on the Lahave ferry.
