Welcome to Flavour Country!

It was a wee bit chilly last night, but never too cold for some charcoal grilling!  Kurt Wentzell (of Wooly Mountain Farm fame) has started selling pork 'grilling chops' at the Lunenburg Farmers' Market.  As you may have noticed, they are niiice and thick.  Why anyone would grill anything under 1" thick is beyond me.

Grilling pro-tips (courtesy of America's Test Kitchen):
~30 minutes before the meat hits the fire, immerse chops in brine consisting of 2 tbsp. salt dissolved in 4 cups water.
Rinse chops and thoroughly pat dry, apply a little olive oil, season with salt and pepper.
Grill over direct heat, ~4 minutes per side.
Remove from direct heat, check internal meat temp.
When chops have reached ~135 F, they are ready to pull.
Let meat rest for ~ 5 minutes, internal temp. should rise to ~140F by the time it's ready to eat.
To keep chops warm, loosely tent with foil while resting.

SOFA KING GOOD!

Valley Industry

Stumbled upon this cool scene of agri-business in the Annapolis Valley a couple weekends ago.

All the shots we took that afternoon look somewhat epic, thanks to those ominous clouds.  Luckily, it never did start raining....

Last feed of local asparagus, first feed of fresh mackerel

Sad to see the end of the local (read = Lun. County) asparagus, delicious as always.

SO EXCITED to have my first feed of fresh mackerel.  Tastes even better when you catch 'em yourself.  Mack attack is ON!

I'm delighted, though technically I'm not a sailor...

Spotted in Riverport last night, looking up the LaHave River.  Neat line reflection in the foreground, didn't notice it at the time.

Now that's my kind of lawn!

Why would anyone rather have a lawn full of grass that needs to be mowed, when it could look like THIS!?!  Well, at least in early May ^_^

Spotted somewhere in Middle LaHave, on da east sigh-EED of the rivah!

Why the blog is called "All Good!"

Believe it or not, I have not taken a picture of this graffiti since I started this blog.  Shocking, I know.

Like many South Shore folks, I've driven past this spot on Hwy. 103 many, many times.  It's inside the Lunenburg County line and for me, it has always symbolized this wacky county we call home.

So there you go, origin story revealed.  Now talk amongst yourselves...

What's on this weekend? More like what isn't on this weekend?!?

For starters, this weekend is the Apple Blossom Festival in the Valley.  There's a parade on Saturday, the 'infamous' 1/2 chicken dinner on Sunday (arrive before 2 pm, trust me) and all sorts of other activities.

'Down home', usual round up of breakfasts.  Broad Cove/Vogler's Cove is a busy spot this weekend, hosting a champagne brunch one day and a baked bean and ham supper the next day.

The Maitland Spring Tea on Saturday is always yummy (possibly the best orange pekoe tea you'll ever drink), well worth checking out.

Ox pulls, roast beef suppers AND it's going to be sunny!?  Soak it up folks, soak___it___up.
