Scotland: Skye scene

Uig, Scotland
June 22, 2012

Another blast from the past...this time on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

I like this shot of a man tending his potato plants under the  setting sun.  Uig turned out to be a fun excursion from the nearby hostel.

We ended up at the local pub, with the best seats in the house.  We were just in time for that evening's Euro 2012 match (Greece v Germany).  Turns out the local fans hated Germany more than Greece.  I learned that lesson the awkward way, after I let a quiet cheer out when Germany made a good attempt on goal.  It was only after the pub erupted into clapping and cheering after Greece's goal that I realized I was on the 'wrong' side.  Whoops!

Birding: American Eagle!

Rose Bay, NS
May 10, 2013

I spotted this beautiful bird Friday morning on my drive to work.

There were two sopping wet eagles on the shoreline.  I quickly brought my car to a standstill on the shoulder and scrambled to find my camera.

This one was drying off after a night of heavy rain.  The other eagle was eating....something.

South Shore Beach Break - Off the Lip!

Somewhere on the South Shore
April 28, 2013

Local ripper gets a piece of a nice floater while the lobster boats set pots in the distance.  The sand bar is back at this local spot, providing a nice right from time to time...if you know where/when to look.  My lips are sealed.

Spring surfing, one of my favourite times of the year.  Empty lineups, lots of daylight hours in the evening.  Now if only that darn ocean would warm up.....it was ~ 6 C the day I shot this pic.

Signs of Spring: One Massive Forsythia

Bayport, NS
May 4, 2013

This year, I managed to capture an early Spring shot of this massive forsythia bush in Bayport.  I'll try to get more shots of it while it blooms.

It's not easy to distinguish, but there's a nice weeping willow behind the forsythia.  It's got lime green buds popping out at the moment...with all this warm weather I'm sure the leaves will be out any day.  Today?

Hwy. 103 Rubik's Cube: SOLVED!

Hwy. 103, Hammond's Plains, NS
May 4, 2013

I heard tales that someone had 'solved' the highway rubik's cube, story checks out.

I also heard they solved it in 1 minute, blindfolded ....true story!

*update* May 17:  This post is spreading like crazy via Facebook.  I appreciate all the shares and views, thanks!  I hope you enjoy my other pictures and posts while you visit.

As some have pointed out, it is a 4X4 grid (should be 3X3)...and the colours aren't in the correct order...but really, are we looking for realism here?  It makes me smile every time I see it.  I'm sure this won't be the last chapter in the Hwy. 103 Rubik's cube saga...I will do my best to document any/all changes!

Burn Permit

Riverport, NS
April 30, 2013

April showers bring May flowers, is there a rhyme for April bonfires?

I love how ghostly the figures look in this image, as well as the contrast of the sodium street lights on the left with the new LED street lights on the right.

Try as we might, we were not able to get the fire big enough to burn off the encroaching fog bank.  Next year....
