Another blast from the past...this time on the Isle of Skye in Scotland.

I like this shot of a man tending his potato plants under the  setting sun.  Uig turned out to be a fun excursion from the nearby hostel.  

We ended up at the local pub, with the best seats in the house.  We were just in time for that evening's Euro 2012 match (Greece v Germany).  Turns out the local fans hated Germany more than Greece.  I learned that lesson the awkward way, after I let a quiet cheer out when Germany made a good attempt on goal.  It was only after the pub erupted into clapping and cheering after Greece's goal that I realized I was on the 'wrong' side.  Whoops!

Signs like this and the public's general mistrust of rounding cash totals up/down to adjust to life without the penny make me sad. Both are GLARING signs of the general failure of the education system to teach basic spelling and math skills.  

It is comforting to know, that when the person who made these signs goes to a job interview or meeting, they will be promp.

Oh, folks do love to throw around apostrophes with wild abandon, don't they?  

It's as if people turn in to Oprah when they are unsure how to use a plural form of a noun.

YOU get an apostrophe...and YOU get an apostrophe!!! EVERYONE GETS AN APOSTROPHE!!!

You know you're 'down home' when....

On a recent trip to the Bridgewater Superstore, I read a sign that made me laugh out loud.  I laughed long and hard at that sign.

I wonder what possessed someone to write it?  Did a manager ask Trina to "make up a postah, so people know there's more tuna down back on a table"?   Is "down back" a location at the Superstore that is universally understood?  I wasn't sure where it was.  Beside the meat counter?  Near the frozen dinner section?  At the end of  aisle 6?  Behind the building?  Where is "down back" anyway?


Sadly, I did not have a pen with me so I could correct the sign to read, "...down back on to a table".  


The first time I saw the sign, I did not have my camera in hand.  The next day, I returned to the Superstore to capture the shot.  While I was there, I decided to go for a wander.  

Here, for your enjoyment, I have discovered the location of the elusive DOWN BACK!

We're not in Kansas anymore: pt. 2

I got some strange looks from our hosts when I snapped this shot.  They couldn't understand why I would want to photograph a random car on a random street.  I had to explain that we don't have 'letting agencies' in Canada.  Also, it's not common for corner shops to advertise 'nougats, oysters, wafers' for sale.  Apparently 'oysters' are a sweet, which makes more sense than selling shellfish in a corner shop.


I'm glad I took the time to take shots like this.  Of course, photographer's remorse, I wish I had taken many more....

This was shot back in the middle of June, on an sunny day not unlike today.


Head on down to your local chip truck/dairy bar and go and fill up on soft serve and grease!
