I wish I could have seen this backyard wrasslin ring in its prime.  Now, it's just a rusting, rotting relic.  From what I can tell from the road, the 'floor' looks like it's made of old mattresses.  Heck, it looks like it even has turnbuckles!

I've meant to take a shot of this spot for a while now...it's been there for over 10 years.  This spot always sketches me out.  I rolled up, took a couple quick shots and got the hell out of there. If I'm feeling brave, I might try to get a better shot of it down the road...for now, this will have to do.

While we're on a bit of a brake burn kick, here's a fresh strip of burnt rubber from 'up home'.

This shot is about as Lunenburg County as it gets...those familiar with the location will understand what I'm talking about.  

You know you're 'down home' when....

On a recent trip to the Bridgewater Superstore, I read a sign that made me laugh out loud.  I laughed long and hard at that sign.

I wonder what possessed someone to write it?  Did a manager ask Trina to "make up a postah, so people know there's more tuna down back on a table"?   Is "down back" a location at the Superstore that is universally understood?  I wasn't sure where it was.  Beside the meat counter?  Near the frozen dinner section?  At the end of  aisle 6?  Behind the building?  Where is "down back" anyway?


Sadly, I did not have a pen with me so I could correct the sign to read, "...down back on to a table".  


The first time I saw the sign, I did not have my camera in hand.  The next day, I returned to the Superstore to capture the shot.  While I was there, I decided to go for a wander.  

Here, for your enjoyment, I have discovered the location of the elusive DOWN BACK!

The Big Ex:  Demolition Derby

This team spent quite a while trying to pry off that bumper.  I'm not sure how it was attached, it seemed pretty resistant to crowbars and pry bars, that's for sure!

This car eventually won the title of 'most crushed'.  It's a Pontiac Grand Am, remember what it looks like because the 'after' photo does not look like a Grand Am.  Stay tuned!

The Big Ex: Demolition Derby

After a year of regretting that I missed last year's demo derby, I finally got a chance to check out the spectacle that is The Big Ex demolition derby.  

What___a__shit__show.

I'm sure somewhere, J.G. Ballard was smiling down on Bridgewater that drizzly Sunday.  

This was the scene that greeted upon arrival.  Sweaty men with beer guts, sparks, big pieces of metal, grease, etc..  All signs pointed to awesomeness.  This crew was.....welding something to.....something.  

The stands were packed full of excited derby watchers like myself.  We were not disappointed!  Round after round of gasoline charged mayhem ensued all afternoon.  Stay tuned for more pics in the days and weeks to come.

If you are kicking yourself for missing out on all the shenanigans, fear not faithful readers.  The Coldbrook Lions have an event at the end of August which looks even MOAR ridiculous!

Billed as the 'Bash for Cash', it will feature 80-100 cars registered to get destroyed.  Heck, there's even a mini van class, what's not to love?!?  

August 26th.  In a gravel pit.  Be there.  I know I will.

Vinegar Hill Brake Burn

I heard the tires squealing from inside the house, ran outside and 'just' missed the burnout in progress....all that remained was a grey cloud of smoke hanging over Vinegar Hill. Shot this shortly thereafter while driving up the hill.

Anyone who has ventured down this mogul run, masquerading as a 'road' knows that this homemade protest road sign is sadly, correct.

Gary Ramey, PAVE THIS ROAD! You used it as an example of poor roads during your campaign, I seen you in to the paypuh an erryding.

Gotta clear out the '10's to make room for the '11's

Spotted this nice stack of firewood last weekend. I love the weathered, grey wood from last year and the fresh look of the recently split and stacked wood beside it.

Spring also means...brake burns!

For those hankering for a fresh set of brake burns, look no further. Lots of fresh patches on the roads, this set was laid down on some sand seal road in Union Square.

Dirt side road navigation

Driving dirt side roads requires a keen eye and an ability to follow the pack.

When in doubt, look for the well worn path the locals take through a rough section. It's often the least pot hole-y path available. This section of road is in Union Square.

A lost art

There will come a day when no one knows how to paint olde tyme sale signs for grocery store windows. And no, doing it in Photoshop is NOT the same, pffft. Spotted in Barss Corner.

A handyman's dream

Just needs a little TLC, or so the real estate listing would suggest (if it existed).

Hark, 'tis the infamous leaf bag trailer on the Cornwall Road!

I doubt many drafts get through this layer...of what appears to be hundreds of bags of leaves.

Oh, there's snow 'up home'

See for yourself. This was shot at Keji two weekends ago, a recent 'recce' of the park this past weekend revealed that there is still plenty of snow inland. XC skiing conditions were excellent!

My prayers have been answered!!!

We finally have snow down by the shore, and more to come this week. HUZZAH!

Until recently, I had to travel inland to get my snow fix. This video was shot in the hill/field behind my buddy's place. I like how you can see some snow flakes at the beginning.

I tried shooting this one handheld, so I could hold the camera close to the ground.
