I had a few precious minutes to spare en route to the Lahave ferry, so I pulled over and snapped a couple shots.  Glad I was up to catch the nice morning light on this barn.

Now that's a big mountain ash!  Trying to get as many shots of 'em as I can before the berries fade.....won't be long now especially with the risk of frost forecast for tonight.

To be honest, I have no idea where Lower Rose Bay ends and Kingsburg/Upper Kingsburg begins.  At any rate, this one is on the road from Rose Bay to Kingsburg, close to the turn off to Upper Kingsburg.

A typical day in the burg of kings....deer crossing the road, while a tall ship is moored in Rose Bay.

The tall ship is the Norwegian vessel Sorlandet, which has been home to the Class Afloat students.  It is the oldest full rigged ship in the world still in operation!  Interested in learning how to sail on a tall ship? Check out this press release for more info.

I spotted this beautiful bird Friday morning on my drive to work.  

There were two sopping wet eagles on the shoreline.  I quickly brought my car to a standstill on the shoulder and scrambled to find my camera.  

This one was drying off after a night of heavy rain.  The other eagle was eating....something.

....the snow plow becomes the seaweed plow.  

This is the typical aftermath of a nor'easter, such as the one that rolled over Nova Scotia last weekend. Some of those berms/piles of seaweed are waist high!  

If you need some mulch material, please....come pick it up. ^_^

Rose Bay: Tall ships ahoy!

This was the vista that greeted me July 24th as I drove down the hill towards Rose Bay.  The following tall ships were anchored in Rose Bay: Providence, Lynx, Pride of Baltimore, Amistad, Tree of Life, Larinda, Roseway, and Unicorn.  It was neat to think about a time when this sight would have been commonplace.  

It was great to see the Tree of Life back in local waters, it was built in Petite Riviere in 1991.  I remember the night it was launched.  It had to be moved from Petite to Lahave for the launch.  As the boat was transported along the highway, a group of my friends and I attempted to resurrect an old tradition for ensuring good luck for new boats.  We tried to enter church bell towers along the way and ring their bells.  There are many churches along the road from Petite to Lahave!  Sadly, our efforts were thwarted when the RCMP arrived as I stood at the bottom of a long extension ladder leading up to the bell tower of a small church.  Luckily, we did not get in trouble....we never did ring a bell that night.

A beautiful day in the neighbourhood

I had to act quickly to get a shot of this local fisher returning to the wharf.  I didn't realize that I'd captured the nice 'c' shape of his boat's path towards home.  Spotted in Lower Rose Bay, or whatever this place is actually called.  >_<

Reasons why I love where I live: Xmas trees on power poles

I'm assuming the Xmas trees (festooned with lights, no less!) on the power poles in Rose Bay and Riverport are courtesy of our local electric commission. Whoever is responsible, I love 'em. Especially at night. I love driving home and seeing Xmas trees and lights ~20 ft. above the ground.

Not so rosy bay

Heavy clouds were hanging over us on the drive home last Tuesday. Once we hit Rose Bay a sliver of sun appeared under the clouds.

Good 'ole golden chain

Golden chain trees are....glorious.

After the forsythias have bloomed, after the kerria bushes have come and gone, it is another welcome splash of yellow in yards around the county.

Sadly, their blossoms are starting to fade this week. So check out this two story beauty, shot on June 22.

I like how the power poles look like masts...and that Upper Kingsburg Rd. looks (and drives) more like a wave than a road!
