A Windy Hirtle's Beach Sunset

Hirtle's Beach, NS
Sept. 12, 2013

A fruitless trip to the beach in search of waves, but I managed to get a cool shot of the low hanging clouds and wind on Romkey Pond.  It's all about balance, right?

Just another sunny day on Hirtle's Beach

A shot of the back side of Hirtle's Beach, Dublin Bay can be seen in the distance.  A great day for a hike out to Gaff Point!

Gaff Point/Hartling Bay

Gaff Point, NS
March 29, 2013

I'm not sure if Gaff Point is considered Kingsburg or Upper Kingsburg.  I do know it is an excellent hike if you have the time.  We had a great time hiking the point on the Easter long weekend, luckily the weather cooperated.

The efforts of the Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy did not go unnoticed, especially on the wet portion of the trail.  The walkways that were constructed last year are excellent and kept our feet nice and dry!

If you haven't checked out one of my favourite corners of planet earth, I highly recommend it!

Hartling Bay, West Ironbound Island & Gaff Pt.

It was a frothy day in the ocean earlier in March when I took this shot.  The shining sun and gorgeous clouds were a pleasant bonus.

Birding: Great Egret

Last weekend, I spotted this Great Egret hanging out in Romkey Pond (just behind Hirtle's Beach).  It did not move much that afternoon.  I guess it found a good fishing spot and was content to stay put and fill its belly.  These are a rare sight in this part of the world.

I wish I had set up my tripod to get some clearer shots, this one was shot from the car with me leaning over the passenger seat to shoot out the window.

Monday evening was nice

Today, not as nice.

I'm glad I went for a stroll to enjoy the glorious evening. So mild, no wind and more importantly; NO BUGS.

Winter Fun on Romkey Pond

Sigh....shot on the weekend, remember when there was snow? Where is that winter that I ordered!?! I was looking for any excuse to go surfing, sadly...the ocean did not provide said excuse.

If you squint, you might be able to spot the group of people having fun out on the ice. There was an auger involved. I'm assuming it was used to test the thickness of the ice and not for *gasp* illegal ice fishing.

note to self: must clean inside of my windshield...

I can't keep track of all these storms

I do know this shot was taken Oct. 30th, whether or not this windy day/storm had a name, I cannot say...as a local surf shop owner would say: "...typical Hirtle's beach closeout...."
