No shortage of kitesurfers in Les Iles de la Madeleine these days...there are even a few windsurfers still kicking around:

Dixie Lee Chicken!!!

I think I squealed a little when I saw this sign in Cap aux Meules, during my recent trip to Les Iles de la Madeleine. I had no idea Dixie Lee was such an east coast phenom, but apparently it is. My place mat showed a plethora of Dixie Lee joints throughout New Brunswick and Quebec.

The food was greasy and pretty forgettable, but it was worth it for nostalgia's sake.

Hehe, this fried chicken sign probably doesn't warrant 3 exclamation points, but Dixie Lee Chicken is a real blast from the past for me.

There used to be a Dixie Lee in Bridgewater, NS...That was back when Superstore was Brady's lumber mart and A&W used to be the Little Red Restaurant. Points go to anyone who knows what business is currently in the old Dixie Lee location...

Won't you take a trip down memory lane with me with this brief video interlude from the Dixie Lee Maritimes site?

Cap aux Meules

This was shot the morning I left Les Iles de la Madeleine. As you can see, the fog was hanging very low in the sky (soon thereafter, it rolled in REAL thick-like).

At any rate, I didn't have time to move to get a clear shot, sans fence and power lines, but in the end I like all the different lines in the shot. And really, this is what it looks like near the ferry terminal.

Hope you enjoy another glimpse of Les Iles...

An oldie, but a goodie...

I wish this shop had been open, I really wanted to take pics inside. (I have a soft spot for run down convenience stores...)

Les Iles de la Madeleine Landscape

Typical sight on Les Iles, weathered shack in foreground with a rolling hill leading to the ocean in the distance.

Exploring Gros Cap in Les Iles de la Madeleine

Regular readers would've noticed an absence of posts last week, I was on vacation in Les Iles de la Madeleine. I highly recommend checking them out, but bring your French/English dictionary, "parlez vous anglais?" only gets you so far...

Here's a glimpse of some of the coast around Gros Cap. I shot this video just after emerging from the sea cave you can see in the video, what an exhilarating swim!:

Brake burns are universally rural ^_^

Felt like I've been neglecting les burnouts recently, so, that being said...

Here's my compilation of brake burns/burnouts/les burnouts from my recent trip to les ÃŽles de la Madeleine.

As you can see, burnout culture knows no cultural/language boundaries...give me a rural road seldom travelled by the po po, and I'll show you brake burns!

Ma Grande Aventure aux ÃŽles de la Madeleine - jour 2

The first of many windsurfers I would see on my trip

Part of my dune adventure near Old Harry, can you see the trail? It wasn't always clear which way to go, fun!

It was a cloudy day on the island, hard to capture the vistas you see in the tourist brochures..

En faites les burnouts ici, le!

Stunning, one of the few beaches that almost had surfing potential....almost. The cliffs in the distance reminds me of Cape Breton.

Lots of red cliffs to be photographed, this place is an amazing spot for kayaking, I wann go through that hole in the rock!

Ma grands aventure aux ÃŽles de la Madeleine: NS => PEI

This was to be a recurring theme all weekend..waiting in line for a ferry. I managed to hit all my ferries on time, SO much better than driving!

Started snapping pics of people coming off the PEI => NS ferry, buddy gave me the finger, it was a good omen ^_^

Busted! seatbelt not on, one hand on camera, how many driving laws am I violating here?

New VW van on its first trip? LOTS of veedub vans on Les ÃŽles , le!

The captain caught me snapping this one

Nothing says ferry like ferry jello...

Our fishing boat 'escort'....the adventure was only just beginning..

La derniere soire chez Iles...

I came, I saw, I got my ass handed to me by an 11.5 meter kite, I drank your fine beers and savoured your stinky cheeses...Les Iles de la Madleine, I`ll be back..

On faites beacoup de burnouts en Les Iles, le!

First day of my vacation en Les Ilês de la Madeleine. Amazing.

Fine cheeses on offer, the best chocolate croissant I have ever eaten...had a coastal dune adventure (pics to follow) this morning, interesting trail, you had to use your head to figure out where it went next...

Sipping a fine biere blonde ce soir, made with barley grown on Les Ilês, delish!

Tomorrow, kite surfing and kite buggying lessons await!
