Signs of Spring: One Massive Forsythia

Bayport, NS
May 4, 2013

This year, I managed to capture an early Spring shot of this massive forsythia bush in Bayport.  I'll try to get more shots of it while it blooms.

It's not easy to distinguish, but there's a nice weeping willow behind the forsythia.  It's got lime green buds popping out at the moment...with all this warm weather I'm sure the leaves will be out any day.  Today?

Bayport: Under Construction

Bayport, NS
Dec. 27, 2012

If you have driven the road through Bayport in the last 2 or 3 years, you might have noticed a house with one corner wrapped in grey tarps and wooden scaffolding.  I'm assuming it has either been a permanent construction zone or....a sporadic construction zone.  At any rate, the tarps have remained for the duration, I'm sure the neighbours looove staring at it every day.

I'm glad I finally managed to snap a shot of it illuminated at night.  They must be doing 'something' inside, right?

Blossoms....blossoms everywhere!

Gorgeous azaleas abound everywhere in Lunenburg County these days.  Last weekend, I spotted these shrubs  in full bloom, lining the driveway to the Bayport Cemetery.  You can see shadbush trees blossoms in the background.

Shadbush are aptly named, since their blooms coincide with the annual shad fish run.  Shadbush (aka serviceberry, wild pear and its latin name; Amelanchier) fit in to that weird category of 'shrubs that can grow to the size of trees'.

Shadbush are blooming everywhere right now, they are pretty easy to spot.  If you see small white blossoms (5 petals) on shrubs/trees in the woods right now, they are likely shadbush.  A beautiful counterpoint to the electric, lime green of new buds and leaves.  Stay tuned for shots of this new growth, set against the grey/brown of trees that have yet to unfurl their lovely leaves....

Lunenburg, in the distance

Another shot from last Friday, this time from the Bayport area. Lunenburg can be seen in the distance, under a cloud of snow/hail as it blew through the area.

Snowy drive-by

Shot from the car, somewhere in Bayport, NS.
Seemed like a good shot to share out today, now that we have returned to seasonal norms for weather...

Rise and shine

After numerous attempts, I finally snapped a shot of last night's moonrise that wasn't terribly blurry. I'm glad I got a shot of the tree on the pier as well.

I like my commute home

I get greeted by scenes such as this one. 3 piers, 3 xmas trees.

I hope I can get a shot of these lit up at night, with the xmas lights reflecting in the water. It is January 9th, but hopefully the owners of these trees are as 'relaxed' as I am when it comes to taking down the 'ole tree...
